CAD Audio was originally founded as the Astatic Corporation in 1931, with an aim to develop static-free microphones. Along with overcoming the problem of static, the company greatly improved the quality of radio transmitter microphones in general. In the years thereafter, Astatic developed a line of innovative crystal mics, phonograph pickups, and recording heads. Although CAD was initially a division of Astatic catering to the pro audio industry, both Astatic and CAD were rebranded as CAD Audio to combine the strengths of their technologies and expand their offering of microphones. Today, the brand offers four series of products: Recording, Live Performance, Astatic Commercial, and Personal Audio.
