Route Mic-Level Audio Over Cat5 Securely
Designed for use with the TX4M, the Radial Engineering Catapult RX4M is a snake that takes 4 channels of mic level signals over Cat5/Cat6 cables and routes them to 8 XLR jacks. Four of the XLR channels are direct outputs and the remaining four are isolated. This device is useful for live sound reinforcement applications as it allows live sound stage technicians to ensure high quality audio connections on large stages and venues using relatively inexpensive cables. Also suitable for system providers who can use Catapult in pre-wired networks to transmit audio in different rooms.
The Catapult RX4M offers two banks of XLR channels with four channels each. Phantom power can be supplied directly from the output (if shielded Cat5/Cat6 cables are used), while the isolation provided at mic level eliminates noise issues that ground loops can cause help you to You will also notice two RJ45 type etherCON connections. One is a multi-channel input for use with his TX4M on the transmit side. Another is throughput, which can be implemented when routing signals to additional catapults.
Three different possible destination paths through the XLR bank and etherCON throughput allow audio to be split to multiple sources as needed. A ground lift switch helps eliminate noise problems on Cat5/Cat6 lines. A steel handle also makes it easy to carry, and four bumpers protect the Ethernet jack and ground lift switch from wear and tear.
